South African High Commission in Sri Lanka proudly celebrates Freedom Day

The High Commission of the Republic of South Africa in Sri Lanka held Freedom Day celebrations in grand manner at the rooftop banquet hall at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo on Friday 26 April 2013.

The High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Mr. Geoff Doidge and Mrs. Carol Doidge together with the High Commission staff greeted the arriving guests personally at the entrance of the reception hall. The South African Freedom day celebrations was well attended by senior officers of the Sri Lankan government, politicians, diplomatic corps and foreign embassies, clergy representing diverse religions, policy-makers, businessmen and many representatives of prominent think-tank’s.
The Chief Guest at the event was the Sri Lankan Senior Minister for Rural Affairs Hon Athauda Seneviratne. After welcoming the Sri Lankan Minister by the High Commissioner the South African Freedom Day celebration in Colombo was followed by the singing of the national anthems of both countries by a group of talented Sri Lankan artists. The celebration cake was cut by the host High Commissioner Doidge, Mrs Carol Doidge and Minister Hon Athauda Seneviratne.
In welcoming guests High Commissioner Doidge highlighted a few of South Africa’s main accomplishments over the last few years and South Africa’s efforts to promote bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and South Africa. In his speech the Chief Guest Senior Minister Hon Seneviratne expressed gratitude to the South African High Commissioner and to the fellow diplomats for their commitments and remarked about the significance of the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Soon after the remarks, the friends of South Africa and the diplomatic community were welcomed to the ceremonial cocktail at the rooftop banquet hall at the Taj Samudra Hotel. The guests were entertained by amazing melodies by the Sri Lankan performers throughout the South African Freedom Day celebration banquet.
