The Government of Maldives and Sri Lanka held official talks, led by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The President reiterated the government’s commitment to enhance the welfare of the people, develop and diversify the economy, strengthen social cohesion within the country, and empower the youth.
At the meeting, discussions were also held on the regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Important agreements signed between the Governments of Maldives and Sri Lanka

Three very important agreements were signed between the Governments of Maldives and Sri Lanka. The ceremony was held at the President’s Office this evening.
Following are the agreements that were signed:
1. MoU on Health Cooperation
The agreement was signed by Minister of Health, Dr. Maryam Shakeela, and Sri Lankan Minister of External Affairs, Hon. G. L. Peiris.
2. MoU on Strengthening cooperation between Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and Ministry of Economic Development of Maldives
The agreement was signed by Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Mohamed Saeed, and Sri Lankan Minister of External Affairs, Hon. G. L. Peiris.
3. Arrangement on Search and Rescue
The agreement was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, and Sri Lankan Minister of External Affairs, Hon. G. L. Peiris.
President Yameen and President Mahinda Rajapaksa were in attendance at the signing ceremony.
