New Era of Bangladesh - Singapore Diplomatic relationship

The People’s Republic of Bangladesh is committed to a dynamic and mutually beneficial relationship with Singapore. Bangladesh and Singapore are looking forward to an ever-expanding relationship between the two countries. Both nations cover a wide range of areas that takes place at multiple levels and share similar opinions on many international issues. The Bangladesh High Commissioner is His Excellency Mahbub Uz Zaman a career diplomat who comes to represent his country in Singapore with a wealth of experience on international affairs. He will be of great benefit to the bilateral relations between Singapore and Bangladesh.
On 25th October 2012 the High Commissioner presented his credentials to the President of Singapore His Excellency Tony Tan. On a visit to Singapore the Global Editor for Foreign Exchange spoke with Bangladesh High Commissioner Mahbub Uz Zaman about his posting in Singapore and his important role in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
High Commissioner said “The bilateral trade between the two countries has now reached S$ 1.7 billion and our 100,000 expatriate Bangladeshi workers contribute immensely to the national economy of Bangladesh and to the economic growth of Singapore”
In Singapore, the 100,000Bangladeshi workers are employed in the construction, ship building, maintenance and conservancy sectors. It was estimated that there were about 60 percent of Bangladeshi workers employed on construction industry. Overall economic gains from Bangladeshi worker remittances rose to US $ 426.91 million in 2012 from Singapore compared to US$ 235.76 million in 2011 (Bangladesh Bank).
The bilateral trade turn over between these two economies has now reached new heights of S$ 1.7 billion. Bangladesh recently received US $1000 million in investments from Singapore according to the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore.
The many high-level exchanges between leaders, ministers and prominent people of both countries reflect the strong and growing relations between the two countries. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Dr Dipu Moni paid a visit to Singapore on June, 2012. Her visit was followed by a similar mission by Mr Masgos Zulkifi State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore in September 2012. There has been a flurry of high-level interaction between Singaporean and Bangladeshis consisting of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICCB) and the Bangladesh Business Chamber of Singapore.
The fastest-growing sectors of Bangladesh economy, such as textile, spinning, frozen foods, leather, electronics, ceramics, engineering, pharmaceutical industry, development of power sector are competitive investment sectors for Singaporeans.
The spectrums of bilateral relations between the two countries are growing rapidly. Through enhanced multiple sectors trade, commerce and culture are complementarities between Singapore and Bangladesh vibrant partnership.
